“For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:38-39‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

“I feel so stupid. I can’t believe I did that!” Ever say this to yourself? It’s easy to get caught up in our failures. Let’s face it, all of us can rattle off a list of our own mistakes and regrets at breakneck speed. We get accustomed to hyper-focusing on her own shortcomings while offering a wide berth of grace to others for their human limitations.

The logical, almost automatic next step in this self-destructive negativity blitz is to buy into Satan’s lies which try to deceive us into thinking we don’t measure up to God’s standard for lovability.

Isn’t it good to know the Word of truth that assures you and I that we are not powerful enough to do anything that would separate us from His love?🚦

“Observe the month of Abib and celebrate the Passover to the Lord your God, because the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night in the month of Abib. Sacrifice to Yahweh your God a Passover animal from the herd or flock in the place where the Lord chooses to have His name dwell.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭16:1-2‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Think back to the most fun wedding you’ve ever attended. From the rings to the bridal dress to the venue and food, weddings require a great deal of planning and can cost huge sums of cash. Let’s face it: weddings are a very expensive sacrificial celebration. Someone does have to plan and fork over payments.

Celebration involves sacrifice. What sacrifices do you presently make to celebrate the free gift of salvation? It may manifest in multiple ways—tithes, acts of service, Bible study, prayer, or maybe simply getting up and showing up. Consider ways you can celebrate the free gift given through Christ every single day. 🚦

Jesus answered, “The light will be with you only a little longer. Walk while you have the light so that darkness doesn’t overtake you. The one who walks in darkness doesn’t know where he’s going. I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me would not remain in darkness.

John 12:35,46 HCSB

Have you ever found yourself in a windowless room when the power went out? No light at all, and it gets pretty creepy. You can’t even see your own hand in front of you.

This is exactly what how it is if you are walking through life without the light of Jesus. One can be overtaken by the darkness of it all. But Jesus came to shine light into your darkness, to light your path. Will you let Him lead you?🚦

New Year’s Day 2020

“Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me.”

John 15:4 HCSB

Did life throw you a curveball or two (or ten!) last year? What was your response? Did you duck tail and run? Self-medicate? Become bitter or angry?

If you said yes to any of the last three or could list any other unhealthy reactions, it’s time to come up with a game plan for 2020. Stress and challenges and change are all a part of life you and I can plan for and anticipate. When we remain in Christ we build a buffer that absorbs shock and steadies us in the turbulence. It doesn’t mean our world won’t shake, but we will have an anchor to keep us from turning completely over.

How do we “remain” or “abide” in Him?

*Spend tome reading and meditating on His Word EACH DAY. This means you think on what you’ve read throughout the day.

*Pray often and remain in an attitude of prayer, humbled before God, seeking Him and His wisdom.

*Memorize Scripture. You can do this on your own or with a partner. Pick a passage that is particularly meaningful to you at this season.

*Worship with other believers! We were not meant to go it alone.

*Take a step back from the people and activities that pull you away from Him in the way you speak, think or behave.

Today we hit the “reset” button and start fresh. Let’s do this with intention to remain in Him.🚦

New Year’s Eve 2019

“Moses My servant is dead. Now you and all the people prepare to cross over the Jordan to the land I am giving the Israelites…Above all, be strong and very courageous to carefully observe the whole instruction My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or the left, so that you will have success wherever you go.”

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1:2, 7‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

The Israelites had been through many challenges and changes during the course of 40 years, and now Joshua, not Moses, was leading the Israelites into the Promised Land. You and I can relate to this, can’t we? Yet, when Joshua encouraged his people to be courageous, it wasn’t about being tough and pulling themselves up by their bootstraps he referred to. Instead, he advised them it would take courage to be 100% obedient to God’s instructions in how to they were to live.

As we move forward into 2020, in addition to a multitude of blessings because we’ve been given new life in Christ, two things are sure to come our way: change and challenges. We will be tempted to swerve into disbelief and unfaithfulness, anger and covetousness. At some point, we likely will start to lose hope and want to give up because Satan battles for our hearts. Know it and prepare your hearts and minds in advance by keeping them charged up with the fuel of God’s Word. Remain in obedience to Him and finish well. Be courageous!

Wishing you joy in the journey, friends.🚦

“Look, today I set before you a blessing and a curse: there will be a blessing, if you obey the commands of the Lord your God I am giving you today, and a curse, if you do not obey the commands of the Lord your God and you turn aside from the path I command you today by following other gods you have not known.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭11:26-28‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

It’s popular in current culture to teach “God is love” but ignore the harder parts of scripture that tell us about God’s anger. God loves us so much and wants to lavish His blessings upon us. He makes it clear that there are two main routes, one toward God, and one away from Him. He will NOT force himself on us but does map out the end result of each path. Which one will you choose?🚦

“Keep every command I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to cross into and possess the land you are to inherit,”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭11:8‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Often equated with weakness and inferiority, obedience gets a bad rap in modern society. The rebellious “bad boy” is celebrated while Hollywood teasingly sings,”Only the good die young.”

On the contrary, God’s Word tells us we can find our strength in obedience. We develop intrepid mental stamina and spiritual discipline as we follow God in faith, trusting His leading rather than blazing our own trail. Are you strong enough to lean on God?🚦

“He chose you out of all the peoples, as it is today. Therefore, circumcise your hearts and don’t be stiff-necked any longer.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭10:15b-16‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

God wants us to come to Him willingly out of a grateful heart. We can never be good enough or pure enough on our own, so to “circumcise”, or purify, our hearts we must take our hearts to Him for Him to do the work we are incapable of doing. This is done not once but over and over in an ongoing process of sanctification of becoming more and more like Him. This requires humility, leaving no room for stubborn rebellion.

Are you ready to lay down your defiant obstinance and allow God to wash away the filth?🚦

“You are not going to take possession of their land because of your righteousness or your integrity. Instead, the Lord your God will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness, in order to keep the promise He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭9:5‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

As you and I put away the Christmas decor and turn thoughts toward the coming new year and the plans and challenges that lie ahead, it’s important to remember lessons from the manger. Just as God did not give the blessing of the Promised Land to the Israelites because of their righteousness, He didn’t send Jesus into this world as a gift because of our goodness. God became man because mankind needed a Savior to restore our relationship with Him, broken by our own wickedness. For anyone but Sovereign God, this would be an insurmountable task, but He makes a way through His power and creativity.

Are you facing a roadblock in the path He has marked out for you? If it truly is the road HE has for you, He will go before you to prepare, because He is faithful to complete what He starts. But there will likely still be work to do which will test your trust and obedience. Move forward toward your goals with confidence in our big, big God.🚦

“But now He has appeared one time, at the end of the ages, for the removal of sin by the sacrifice of Himself.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:26‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

I love the Christmas season. I love all the different decorations in yards and homes. I love waking up in the morning while it’s still dark and seeing our tree all lit up with beautiful lights. Shopping for and watching my family unwrap gifts I’ve purchased or made gives me great joy. I treasure the gatherings with beloved family and friends. And I always look forward to the Christmas Eve service at church which helps focus my heart on the REAL reason for celebration.

But as I eagerly anticipate celebrating Christ’s entry into the world as a babe, spirit is continually grateful the work of salvation He completed once and for all

on the cross. That He who had no sin nature sought me out to free me from the bondage of sin so that I could be in right relationship with my Creator is the best gift ever!🚦
