“The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.”
Psalm 16:5-8 ESV
The book of Numbers informs us that priests were not to inherit land, that instead God Himself was their inheritance. In our materialistic society we think of money and property when it comes to estates, but the Psalmist is overjoyed with his rich portion. He chooses God over possessions any day of the week because he knows the Lord is His provision. It is his Heavenly Father, not wealth, which gives wisdom and calms his anxious heart.
Like David, you and I have that same assurance of knowing God is at our sides, and with Him we will remain steady through whatever comes our way if we choose hold on to Him. God is enough. 🚦
