“Serve the Lord with reverential awe and rejoice with trembling.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭2:11‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Just as God calls kings of the earth to surrender to Him, He calls us to the same. A proper view of God is one of deep respect and awe because we know when we seek shelter in Him we are safe. He cares for us, and we can take refuge in Him with confidence. How does your reverential awe (fear, wonderment, respect with rejoicing)for God affect how you live your life daily?🚦#StoplightDevotionalsOK

“Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”

Romans 12:2 HCSB

A friend at work and I share the daily struggle with our posture with sitting or standing all day while working at computers. From time to time one of us will stop by the other’s desk to give a gentle tap on the upper back, our cue to correct the posture. Likewise, you and I need a spiritual “posture check” each morning to correctly position our minds before starting our day. Be sure you spend time this morning and each morning meditating on His Word.🚦

“He forgives all your sin; He heals all your diseases. He redeems your life from the Pit; He crowns you with faithful love and compassion. He satisfies you with goodness; your youth is renewed like the eagle.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭103:3-5‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Aren’t you glad God went far better than forgiving and forgetting and wiping the stink out of us? He forgave us, reconciled us to himself, then He seated us at His right hand as co-heirs with Jesus. No longer are we slaves to sin. When we accept the gift of forgiveness we are immediately placed in a position of righteous royalty as children of The King! Walk in that truth today.🚦

“If you say to yourself, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I drive them out?’ do not be afraid of them. Be sure to remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt: Don’t be terrified of them, for the Lord your God, a great and awesome God, is among you. The Lord your God will drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be able to destroy them all at once; otherwise, the wild animals will become too numerous for you.”

Deuteronomy 7:17-18, 21-22 HCSB

When people talk about miracles and the work of God, its usually with the unspoken assumption that miracles always happen in one fell swoop. But,often, God displays His most amazing work over a period of time. He has His own calendar, His own agenda. It may look as if the victory has taken so long I isn’t going to happen at all, but God is faithful now, just as He was when He rescued the Israelites out of Egypt, and is orchestrating a plan that is so much better than you and I can imagine. Wait on Him.🚦

“But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭33:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

You were sleeping peacefully when the phone rang with a call that shifted your whole reality. In a world where everything around you turn on a dime isn’t it good to know the Lord is your constant? The plan He has for you has not changed. This is not an interruption or detour in the final destination. It’s just not what YOU planned. He never changes, never waivers in His unfailing love for you. He is a solid rock, a steady anchor, a sure foundation. Take hold of that hope today!

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

“Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God. I am deeply depressed; therefore I remember You from the land of Jordan and the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42:5-6‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Do you, when blue or depressed, reach for an artificial means to numb the grief and suffering, or do you reach up and out to our Heavenly Father? Rather than turning to God as a last-ditch effort, the psalmist was intentional in seeking God and recalling all the ways God has been faithful in the past. In the midst of a trial it can be tempting to react with a knee-jerk, “Why me?” May we, instead, recount the ways He has shown us He is a good Father and press into Him.🚦

Happy are the people whose strength is in You,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.

As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
they make it a source of springwater;
even the autumn rain will cover it with blessings.

They go from strength to strength;
each appears before God in Zion.

Psalms 84:5-7 HCSB

Have you ever gone on a vacation that had all kinds of things that didn’t go as planned? Maybe life, in general, hasn’t worked out as you expected. Your career got off track, and raising kids has been anything but awalk in the park.

This life is such a journey. While keeping our eyes trained on the Cross of Christ for navigation, it is important to also look around and enjoy the ride in all it’s wildness. The rough times are when God tends to grow us the most, providing blessing after blessing in how He meets our needs through others, creating sweet memories amidst the bitterness of suffering and sorrow. This is when joy finds us. His strength fills our spirits, fueling us for the next leg of the journey.

Are you letting God turn your struggle into refreshment?🚦

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6:5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In Hebrew the heart and soul overlap in meaning to convey the internal life, disposition and intellect of love. Rather than this verse being an instruction or admonition, God wants us to cultivate an inclination or frame of mind of love, both for Hod and for others. How does one cultivate a disposition of love? Time spent meditating on God’s word, worship, and prayer, a habit being grateful, and telling others your story of God’s faithfulness to you. This kind of singleminded focus comes only through intention. What are you doing to cultivate a disposition of love for God?🚦

“I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:12-14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Sometimes it feels like there is no reason to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Failures abound, and, by worldly standards, all hope is gone. But for those who have been grabbed by Christ, captivated by His sacrifice that tore the veil separating us from the Father, our spirits let us do nothing BUT wake up to another day and move forward. We refuse to let the troubles of this life ensnare us, to tether us when we’ve already been unleashed by Jesus! In His name WE PRESS ON to finish the race well.🚦

“This is the command — the statutes and ordinances — the Lord your God has instructed me to teach you, so that you may follow them in the land you are about to enter and possess. Do this so that you may fear the Lord your God all the days of your life by keeping all His statutes and commands I am giving you, your son, and your grandson, and so that you may have a long life.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6:1-2‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Parents who train their children to obey rules lest the reap consequences give their children the gift of learning a healthy respect for those persons to whine they are accountable.

God gave to Moses (to share with the Israelites) the Ten Commandments and other specific instructions for use in everyday life while Moses was on Mount Horeb. The Lord tells him that through obedience to these instructions the people would learn to fear God, to have a reverential awe and deep respect for who He is. Once in the land of Canaan there were those who were devout in their faith who did follow the statutes and ordinances. These people did fear God. The “fear” came through the process of growing in obedience to God, learning to cultivate an attitude of loving obedience with an understanding that God cared about their long-term well-being. Others followed the letter of the law without any real understanding of who He is. Still others did not listen and rejected the Word of the Lord.

Have YOU cultivated a heart attitude of love and obedience?🚦
