But You, Yahweh my Lord, deal kindly with me because of Your name; deliver me because of the goodness of Your faithful love. For I am afflicted and needy; my heart is wounded within me.

Psalm 109:21-22 HCSB

Others may treat you unfairly, and friends may fail you. But the Lord is steadfast in his mercy, grace and compassion. He binds up the broken-hearted, and he surrounds us with His love. You and I can trust Him with our deepest, most painful hurts.🚦

“As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for You, God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while all day long people say to me, “Where is your God? ””

Psalms‬ ‭42:1-3‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

“Jesus, come soon!” Are you as thirsty for Christ’s return as I am? Do you long to be with Him, to rest completely, to have every tear permanently wiped away?

While we still wait a little longer, rest in the assurance our time is coming. Even now, He is with us. He hears our prayers, even the prayers that have no voice. He knows. He knows.🚦

“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭8:3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Think back to a time when life was very difficult, either due to your own bad choices or because of unfortunate circumstances. Even taking the next step was completely out of your hands, leaving you at the mercy of others generous enough to step in. Whether you are still in that situation or if you have come out on the other side, by the grace of God you are reading this now. God has been providing for your needs all along while showing you it is He who sustains all of life. Have you humbled yourself to it knowledge his greatness and faithfulness?🚦

“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭8:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

An old friend once told me when she would go out in the evening her Dad would caution her, “Remember who you are.“ He hoped that gentle prompt would guide her behavior and choices throughout the evening.

Moses, on the other hand, gave the message, “Remember WHOSE you are.” God sought to humble and test the faith of His rebellious people during their time in the wilderness. While they were completely dependent upon him for all sustenance, they had the choice whether or not to obey.

During your own wilderness seasons do you whine and rebel against the space God has placed you in, or do you bloom where you are planted, looking for each nugget of growth God has for you? It’s your choice.🚦

“The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little. You will not be allowed to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭7:22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

A silver bullet. Who isn’t looking for, or at least secretly hoping for, a quick fix to their problems? When God was preparing the Israelites to overtake the Promised Land, He warned them it would not be easy and would not happen in one fell swoop. It would be hard, and it would take time, but God would be with them in the battle to deliver Canaan over to them.

Process is anything but easy. It takes faith, tenacity and courage. Process means sticking it out through tough circumstances, often seemingly unfair ones, working harder than you ever thought possible. But you are not alone, and His timing is impeccable.🚦

“You may say to yourselves, “These nations are stronger than we are. How can we drive them out?” But do not be afraid of them; remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭7:17-18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

How often do you find yourself engulfed by the problems you are facing? The bills keep piling up. Your relationship seems hopeless. Your health is deteriorating. When the worries threaten to overwhelm you, recount all the times God has shown His faithfulness to you. If God can save the entire nation of Israel out of the wicked hands of Pharoah, He can surely walk you through your trials.

“Do not be terrified by them, for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭7:21‬ ‭NIV‬‬🚦

“So Abram’s wife Sarai took Hagar, her Egyptian slave, and gave her to her husband Abram as a wife for him. This happened after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan 10 years.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭16:3‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Sarai’s womb appeared to be closed. Where were the children God had promised to them? Rather than trust God and His timing, Sarai took matters into her own hands. She let her circumstances become bigger than God, and so those circumstances overwhelmed her.

Have you allowed your circumstances to replace your relationship with God? Are you ready to let go of your tightly held (non)control to allow God to be God?🚦

“But Moses asked God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt? ” He answered, “I will certainly be with you, and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: when you bring the people out of Egypt, you will all worship God at this mountain.””

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭3:11-12‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Moses had spent the last 40 years living quietly, shepherding his father-in-law’s flock when God called him to lead the Israelites out of the 400 year captivity in Egypt. Like any of us would have done, Moses asked God, “Why me? Who am I that You would ask me to do this?” But God answered the question at the heart by telling Moses, “I will be with you.”

God doesn’t necessarily choose the person who might have won the “Most Likely to Go Into Ministry” award. He involves US instead- a motley crew of misfits who know how badly we need the Savior, and then He guarantees He is right there with us in the mix of it.

Who am I? Who are you? We are loved by the God of the universe who desires to live in community with us and to use us to accomplish his mission. That’s who you are. 🚦

“The Lord was devoted to you and chose you, not because you were more numerous than all peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But because the Lord loved you and kept the oath He swore to your fathers, He brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the place of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭7:7-8‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

God chose you and me, not because we were the smartest, best looking, most popular or most athletic. He simply loved us. Because of this you are still here reading this message that I am still here to write. Perhaps you have wondered how it is you are even still alive after some of the stunts you pulled. God is faithful even when you and I or anything but. When you and I were in the gutter, slaves to our addictions and sin, His mighty hand reached out to rescue us. How have you responded? Have you grabbed onto His outstretched, strong right arm? Let Him pull you up out of the pit, onto solid ground.🚦

“We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

When things seem to not going our way we tend to comfort ourselves with this verse. It can be easy to forget that not everything happening in our lives is all about us. Although the enemy wants us to turn inward and navel-gaze about God’s plan for us, God‘s plan does not revolve around us! The cool thing is, you and I cannot mess up God‘s plan, because His plan is not about us. Rather, God chooses to involve us in His plan. Are you a willing, active participant or do you stubbornly refuse to participate?🚦
