“The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Eve listened to the wrong voice and bought into the lies the serpent fed her. She was convinced God had been holding out on her, and there really was a shortcut to wisdom to be gained by biting into this piece of forbidden fruit. Of course, if the fruit had really made them wise, Adam would have owned up to his disobedience instead of hiding from God, ashamed of his physical and spiritual nakedness.

Are you ducking from the Father, knowing you are not living a life pleasing to Him? He desires to be in relationship with you and welcomes you when you simply come directly to Him and confess.🚦

“Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

You feel dead inside. Empty. What do you do to fill that void? Buy clothes? A cool sports car? Achieve a perfectly sculpted body? Move up the corporate ladder? Get married?

Only God can breathe life into that which is dead. As long as you look elsewhere you will continually find yourself empty. Seek the One who gives life🚦

“And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation…For I, the Lord, am the one who brought you up from the land of Egypt, that I might be your God. Therefore, you must be holy because I am holy.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:3‬, Leviticus‬ ‭11:45‬ ‭NLT‬‬

After God worked hard those six days and saw that his work was, indeed, very good, he took a day off and rested. He didn’t just take a little snooze; he called his rest holy.God created you and me in His image and calls us to be like Him. He didn’t just lie down and take a little snooze; he called this day of rest holy, set apart. Since God created you and me in his image, he also calls us to be holy, just as He is holy. In a world that glorifies a “go, go, go“ mentality, it is a holy thing to set apart this day of rest and devote it to worshiping and serving God. What will you do to set apart your day? 🚦

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them…

‭‭God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:27, 31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Six days God labored. At the end of each day he took a good look at all he had created and “God saw that it was good.” However, it was at the end of the sixth day, after creating Adam and Eve, that he declared his work to be “very good.“ It wasn’t enough that he created the sun, moon, stars, sky, land, and every single creature; he was not fully satisfied until he created us! If Creator God thinks so much of the masterpieces he designed in you and me that he finally was able to sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor, should we not equally respect and enjoy each other? May you find deep contentment in your relationships today.🚦

“There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven:

I know that all God does will last forever; there is no adding to it or taking from it. God works so that people will be in awe of Him.”

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3:1, 14‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

One man wins the lottery while another loses his home in an earthquake. A premature baby survives though born at 26 weeks gestation the same day a young mother is laid to rest after a valiant battle with breast cancer. A lifelong friend angrily slams the door on their closest relationship, but a stranger donates a kidney to someone they’ve never met. Day in and day out you and I navigate the twists and turns of a road we would not choose willingly to travel, yet in the midst of the weary journey, when we run out of gas and when the car that is our body breaks down, we encounter God. The apostle Paul was widely known as a persecutor of Christians when God stopped him in his path and completely changed the direction of his life with a new passion and a new purpose. In what ways are you letting go of control and allowing God to use the messes in your life to adjust your course and draw you to Him?🚦

“Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night. They will serve as signs for festivals and for days and years.

Genesis 1:14HCSB

“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived unexpectedly in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

The practice of astrology takes “signs” from stars, sun and moon and from elements in the earth and interprets their influence on humans. The stars themselves become the focus, but God never intended his creation to be the object of such life-determining attention. God created the sun, moon and stars to point people to Him, as were the wise men who followed the star to Jesus. Learned, worshipful men recognized the significance of the star not for how the star itself could affect their lives, but because the star led them to the object of their affection—the Christ-child. As we look out on all creation, may our gaze be drawn upward to the Creator. Praises His Name!🚦

“Then God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water.” So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above the expanse. And it was so. God called the expanse “sky.” Evening came and then morning: the second day.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:6-8‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

It’s a beautiful spring day, and you spread out a quilt on the ground to enjoy a nice picnic. After your tummy is satisfied, you lie down with your hands behind your head and lazily look for animals in the cotton ball clouds. What would our world have been like without the sky as another one of our Father’s canvases? There would be no place for the stars, for starters! How many times have you zipped right past these verses in the creation story, taking them for granted after so much repetition? God, being a God of order, was strategic in what he created at what time in the sequence of things. He was just as thoughtful in his creating you and me, and HE cannot imagine a world without US! Fearfully and wonderfully made, we were placed here at this point in time for a specific mission for bringing glory to Him.

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.”

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

‭‭John‬ ‭1:1-2, 4, Genesis‬ ‭1:3-4‬, John 1:5 NIV‬‬‬‬

God created light BEFORE He created the sun! God is so powerful He is not limited to needing the sun to shine for their to be light. He speaks light into being because He himself is light, and Christ is the radiance of His glory. Where Christ shines his light there can be no darkness. What parts of your life have you been trying to keep hidden in the shadows? Conversely, in what ways do you reflect the light of Christ? 🚦

“In the beginning, God…In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning…Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Before Abraham was, I am.”

Genesis 1:1, John‬ ‭1:1-2‬, John 8:58 NIV

Far greater than what our small minds can conceive is the vastness of God. Before the foundations of the galaxy were laid, before there was light to separate the darkness, “I AM.” Imagine the sweet fellowship amongst Father, Son and Holy Ghost, and yet He still chose you, chose me when earth did not exist! Before even your mama and daddy were a twinkle in their parents’ eyes, the plan was in motion for your eternity with Him. He loved you enough to stretch out His arms and die for you; do you love Him enough to live for Him?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

“Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.  On the sixth day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”

Exodus 16:4-5 NIV

Father God richly supplies us with all we need each day, for the day. Much like the Hebrews wandering in the wilderness, we can become so consumed with worry over how we ourselves will meet our needs (and desires) ahead of time, rather than waiting on God to provide as He sees fit, we hoard food, toilet paper, clothing and all kinds of other nonsense.

Writing devotionals I find myself tempted to store up messages ahead of time or worrying I won’t have anything to share on a given day. Jehovah-Jireh, my provider, shows me he provides all that is needed, and it is not about me. Because of this, Stoplight Devotionals will go to seven days each week, trusting in Him to meet each and every need in His time. Happy Resurrection Day!🚦
