“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.”

Exodus 20:7 NIV

Growing up I only learned the King James version of this verse, understanding that I should never use the name of God before any slang word, but what about all the ways we smear the name of God in our every day lives? Smacking that Christian sticker on the bumper while cutting people off on the highway. Condemning others for their public sin while privately cheating on taxes. Far worse yet, cloistering ourselves in a Christian bubble and not reaching out to love our hurting neighbors as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Bringing glory to the name of God and his kingdom is truly a work of the Holy Spirit in us. Won’t you invite Him in to work through you today?🚦

“In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.””

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭16:2-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The slavery from which they were rescued in Egypt looked much more appealing to the Israelites than the trials of the desert. We, like the Israelites, are quick to forget how God has worked miraculously and been there with us through difficult times. When faced with the challenges of change or hardship it is critical to remind ourselves of the protection and sovereignty God has demonstrated in the past so that we can remain confident of His faithfulness in the barren seasons. Our lives may be in flux, but Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Heb 13:8)🚦

“Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, and the Lord swept them into the sea.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭14:27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When we live in a pattern of sin, disobedience and running from God, like the Egyptian’s, we will find ourselves overwhelmed and confused even as we are trying to dig our way out. Desperate grabs at control fling us into walls of destruction. If this is where you find yourself today, it’s not too late to seek the One who gave Himself up for you to give you real life and hope.🚦

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

So God created mankind in his own image…

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.”

“Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.”

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1, 27a, 31, 2:1-3‬a ‭NIV‬‬

The Hubble Space Telescope launched in 1990 has introduced us to multiple galaxies we were unaware even existed, taking photo after amazing photo of the marvelous discoveries. As incredible as that is, the infinite, eternal God who created the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxy’s out of nothing was not satisfied with all his masterpiece work until he created mankind – – you and me! We are His crowning achievement, His glory manifested on earth, created for good works and to worship Him.

Do you recognize how valued you are by the masterful God who created you as His final work of art?🚦

“The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner residing among you.””

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭12:49‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God didn’t tell them, “You only have to follow this rule if you believe it, if it’s the way you were raised.”. All people, whether Christ followers or not, must have their names written in the Lamb’s book of life, having placed their trust in Jesus as Savior for the forgiveness of sin, to have eternal life with him. Truth does not depend upon your faith to make it true. You see, truth is truth whether or not you believe it. What are you waiting for?🚦

“The Lord had said to Moses, “Pharaoh will refuse to listen to you—so that my wonders may be multiplied in Egypt.””

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭11:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

None of us want a big tragedy to strike our homes, our families or our country. We want to go about our day to day lives without the inconvenience of interruption. God, in His wisdom, provides messes in our lives through which He manifests His glory to draw our eyes to Him in new ways. How is God trying to get your attention, to draw you to Him?🚦

“So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness covered all Egypt for three days. No one could see anyone else or move about for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived. Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the Lord. Even your women and children may go with you; only leave your flocks and herds behind.””

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭10:22-24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I keep wanting to smack Pharaoh around, to point my finger at him and tell him how foolish he is. But then I am reminded of all the times I, myself, was forced to walk in darkness, separated from God by my own hardheaded rebellion. The Holy Spirit lifted the cloak of spiritual darkness from my eyes only for me to stubbornly resist complete obedience and blow it again, just like Pharoah.

Are there any areas of incomplete obedience you need to surrender to God today? How is your dogged determination to do things your own way affecting your relationships? How much more tribulation will have to come for you to turn to Him?🚦

“Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God and against you. Now forgive my sin once more and pray to the Lord your God to take this deadly plague away from me.””

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭10:16-17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Pharoah acknowledges his wrongdoing again to Moses and Aaron. Rather than ask for forgiveness he orders Moses to forgive him. He had not turned away from his sin, and he went back on his word to let the Israelites leave. He was sorry for his behavior only to the extent that he didn’t like the punishment.

Does your apology have the same empty ring as Pharoah’s? Or are you sincerely repenting, turning from the past behavior?🚦

“For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭9:15-16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Spoken by God through Moses and Aaron, the Egyptian Pharoah was put on notice: God put him in power, and God would take him down. (Read further https://www.bible.com/111/exo.9.13-19.niv) Sadly, Pharoah’s hardened heart and resultant bad decisions leading to harsh treatment of the Hebrews would come at a high cost, not only to himself but to all of Egypt. Whether or not you and I are in positions over others, our choices affect others. What are you doing today to build up rather than tear down?🚦

““Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.

Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labor.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭6:6, 9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Since Moses himself raised objections to God’s call to lead the Israelites out of captivity, it probably came as no surprise to him when his people did not rush to jump on the bandwagon of his message. With a promise filled with unknowns and a history of oppression and abuse they at least knew what to expect day to day; they already knew that dysfunction. Stepping out in faith can be SCARY. God does not promise easy, but He promises best, if we will place our trust in Him vs self, obey and wait persistently.🚦
