Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

Proverbs 4:25-27 NIV

Last year my dear husband’s Toyota bit the dust, but instead of buying himself a new truck, he selflessly bought me a brand new Subaru Outback and took over driving our tough-as-nails 2008 Honda Element. My new wagon doesn’t drive itself, but it does have steering assist. If I stop paying attention and start to veer over into another lane, steering assist beeps at me and gently steers back to my lane. I can override the steering assist when needed, and if I use my turn indicator, the car is smart enough to know the change is intentional.

God’s Word tells us to keep our focus on Him, and not to turn or be distracted in any other direction. The Holy Spirit will nudge us when we begin to stray. Sometimes, that nudge turns into a really loud buzzer when we need to stop right in our tracks, much like when a car ahead of me stops, and my “Sooby” practically yells at me “Stop!” But my car is steering assist, not an auto-pilot; I can override it at any time. God will not force us to follow Him; He wants intentional devotion that comes from a grateful heart.

Is God prompting you to get back on course with Him?🚦
